Strides for Stroke
Taking Strides Against Stroke
Dr. Howard Mazer Memorial 5K Run/Walk
Sunday was a beautiful day to have a 5K Run/Walk on Martin Luther King Parkway. The weather was perfect for the runners, walkers and stroke survivors. We had 600 participants and their families and friends working to raise important funds for the Delaware Valley Stroke Council. Monique Braxton, from NBC 10 helped raise public awareness about the warning signs of stroke.

Fast Facts About Stroke
When a stroke occurs, circulation in the brain is cut off. Most strokes occur when arteries to the brain are blocked by blood clots or by a build-up of plaque and other fatty deposits. These blockages prevent blood from reaching brain cells. Starved of blood and oxygen, these brain cells die, robbing people of their abilities to speak, to walk, and even to breathe.
More than 750,000 Americans suffer a stroke every year in the United States. It is the number three killer and the number one cause of adult disability. Sadly, more women die of stroke each year than they do from Breast Cancer and AIDS.
