Stroke survivors and their caregivers who are over 60 can get assistance from PCA through the following programs:

  • Family Caregiver Support Program -- Support groups, Federal and state entitlement programs, Medigap insurance and long term care insurance, home adaptation, assistance with supplies not covered by Medicare and Medicaid, respite and home help.
  • Senior Companion Program -- Specially trained older adults assist homebound seniors by preparing light meals, running errands or doing light shopping, providing respite for caregivers and even taking patients to medical appointments. Companions are trained and receive a stipend in addition to other benefits. Call the number above to volunteer or request a companion.
  • Care at Home -- PCA provides free or low-cost services to disabled elderly persons who wish to continue to live independently. Services include meals-on-wheels, home attendants and counseling services.
  • Long Term Care -- Case management, Adult Day Care and Physical Therapy are all available from PCA.
  • Senior Community Centers -- Ask about locations and services all around the city of Philadelphia.
  • Transportation -- Para transit is available to Senior Centers, medical appointments and for other needs.
  • Overnight Care/Institutional Respite Facilities -- Ask for a list of institutions that can provide respite care.
